Four major investment projects announced or unveiled in summer 2026 are reinforcing La Laguna’s position as an emerging destination for industrial investment in northern Mexico.
Spanning fertilizers, automotive components, advanced logistics, and industrial real estate, these projects represent more than US$1.6 billion in investment, plus more than MXN 840 million (approximately US$47.5 million) in peso-denominated commitments.
Together, they point to a growing industrial ecosystem capable of supporting manufacturing, distribution, and deeper integration into North American supply chains.
Four Investments, Four Strategic Strengths
1. Fermachem: Large-Scale Fertilizer Production
In Lerdo, Durango, Fermachem is developing a fertilizer complex with an investment of more than US$1.5 billion.
The facility is designed to produce one million metric tons of granular urea per year, primarily to supply the Mexican market, with potential for export.
Construction is expected to create approximately 3,000 direct jobs.
The project positions La Laguna in a strategically important industry and creates opportunities for engineering firms, specialized service providers, industrial suppliers, and logistics companies.
2. Clarios: Connecting La Laguna to North American Markets
Clarios officially opened its US$147 million distribution center in Torreon in June 2026, after beginning operations in 2025.
The roughly 280,000-square-foot (26,010 m²) facility can store up to 300,000 batteries and handle up to 11 million units per year.
Equipped with advanced automation and logistics technology, the center serves automakers and distribution networks throughout Mexico and as far as the U.S. West Coast.
The investment reinforces Torreon’s role as a strategic distribution hub in North America’s automotive supply chain.
3. Penta Industrial Park: Infrastructure for the Next Wave of Investment
Grupo JIBE has invested more than MXN 300 million (approximately US$17 million) to develop Penta Industrial Park Laguna in Torreon.
The project expands the region’s supply of industrial real estate, giving companies more options to establish or expand manufacturing operations in northern Mexico.
As companies reassess their North American production and distribution networks, the availability of industrial space remains a key factor in site selection.
4. EcoCab: South Korean Investment in Automotive Manufacturing
South Korean company EcoCab announced an investment of MXN 540 million (approximately US$30.5 million) to build a new manufacturing plant in Gomez Palacio, Durango.
The project is expected to create 200 direct jobs, with operations scheduled to begin in January 2027.
Specializing in automotive cables, wiring harnesses, LED modules, and electrical and electronic components, EcoCab adds international manufacturing capabilities to La Laguna. Its presence further strengthens the region’s integration into global automotive production networks.
Why La Laguna Matters for North American Investors
Spanning the states of Coahuila and Durango, La Laguna functions as a single, integrated metropolitan economy anchored by Torreón, Gómez Palacio, and Lerdo.
Together, these four investments highlight several advantages for companies evaluating expansion in northern Mexico:
- A diversified industrial base spanning the automotive, agribusiness, and fertilizer sectors.
- Growing industrial infrastructure and advanced logistics capabilities.
- Deeper participation in North American production and distribution networks.
- Opportunities for supplier development, specialized industrial services, and workforce development.
Because these projects are spread across both states, they also show the value of viewing La Laguna as a single investment destination with complementary strengths in Coahuila and Durango.
